Emi:　This is our Japanese room.
Kate: These are tatamis, aren't they?
Emi:　You are a good student of Japanese culture.
Kate: It feels nice to be on tatamis.
Emi:　On a hot day we feel cool on them, but on a cold day we can feel warm.
　　　We can sleep on them for a short time in the afternoon.
Kate: Really! Do you sleep on them every night, too?
Emi:　No. In our house we put futons on the tatamis to sleep at night.
　　　During the day our futons are in this small place.
　　　This place is called the "oshiire" in Japanese.
Kate: I see. This room can become a sleeping room quickly.
Emi:　Yes, you are right.

Emi:　Oh, have you? What is it?
Kate: These flowers in the vase are very beautiful.
　　　Is this a Japanese flower arrangement?
Emi:　Yes. I think it is one of the best ways to see flowers in Japan.
　　　We can enjoy the flowers and the quiet atmosphere around them at the same time.
Kate: That's interesting. Each country has its own culture.
Emi:　Yes. Kate, would you tell me something interesting about your country?
Kate: All right. When we go to bed, we put a cup of milk near the window for fairies.
　　　They come to drink it and do good things for us.
　　　Sometimes some of them do bad things to bad people.
Emi:　I will try to become a good person before I visit your country.
