Is there going to be a sequel to Full Moon wo sagashite ?

The way(without giving any main spoilers) the series ended- makes me thinks
that a sequel is in the order
After all our heroine Mitsuki is now only 13 yrs old.

Was there a manga derived from it ? I could not find anything on it..

And WHY was Full Moon wo sagashite rights NOT bought up by American
companies ?
I am very surprised of this considering that  a " Nurse witch (magikarte)
komugi chan still airing(?) in Japan was quickly bought up..An that show is
rather ecchi on the sides..(numerous references to the heroine being flat
chested and her main rival a big breasted bimbo)

Could it be that Full Moon  underlying theme is TOO SERIOUS for an America
audiance(death(via cancer),impossible love,love triangle ,depression,etc..

Note Full Moon is not like Phantom Boogie Pop or Serial  Exp Lain-Full Moon
is a very moving and touching series with some comedy and very dramatic
overtones..
